Description

Hey look, I actually painted something.
Wanted to try painting myself using a photo as reference... But so much stuff changed. Like, I was smiling before and did not have purple skin and weird sparkly gew coming out of my eyes. Though the last was because I was too lazy to draw my eyes. But, JEEZUZ. I can't believe I actuallly made something that ACTUALLY looks like me. 'o'
As for the really cheerful background, my mom said the eyes looked really depressing (Tho i cant see how :/ ) so I decided to make some smiley faces and rainbows to change that! :)
This really helped me out alot. I think I'm gonna start doing stuff like this more often for practice. :D

Well I never ._. Doesn't this look just absolutely gorgeous.

This is just... Woah. Don't get me wrong, I have always adored your drawings and I've loved how you've improved and shaped your own style into something very versatile and visually appealing... But this. Is is something on a such different scale that I am honestly dumbfounded. Never in your drawings before have I managed to catch on that you're actually able to draw something as technically gorgeous as this, while still keeping in that lovely style of yours with the abstract themes. Boy howdy do I have good feedback on this one.

First and foremost, oh my dear lord that skill. I have a really complicated relationship with drawing styles, because on the one hand, I adore simplistic and easthethically beautiful styles, but I also absolutely love when an artist is technically skilled enough to pull off realistic or even photorealistic work which has tons of detail and all those tiny little things that make you go like woaaaaaaaahh how did they ever manage to do something like that and that's kinda my pet peeve and this painting is kinda on the latter category :D There's just so much little things I love about this, I love how the messy colouring gives a wonderful feeling of texture to the skin as well as allows place for some pretty realistic shadows (and I honestly can't see the skin as purple, I see it more like as there'd be a blue light reflecting off of your skin), The hair is absolutely gorgeous, not only because it's well drawn and has a constant yet natural shape to it, but also because it's not simplistically drawn at all. It's not just a uniform mass of hair but the strands of hair are clearly visible but not in a way that'd make them seem like woah man that's a bit too much but just enough to make the hair seem like it's really, really hair. There's a certain feeling of motion to it, a certain dynamism, in a way. Especially in the ponytail and the fringe~

I think I agree with your mother, the eyes do seem kinda depressing. I'm not entirely sure but if I had to guess, the feeling stems from the colours and the way the eyes "bleed". First off, when compared to the pretty frisky colours that otherwise dominate the character, the black eyes are set apart from the rest of the face and seem to draw attention. Not only that, but the way they "bleed" looks a lot like tears falling down, so it does have a somber tone to it. In contrast with that, the extremely positive and joyful background clashes with the grim look of the eyes and brings it down a notch so it doesn't seem so much as depressing as it does outlandish and abstract. The background all in all serves its purpose in setting the tone down a bit and giving the painting some much-needed balance, and I personally think that without the background, the mere character would look quite grim and creepy. The happy-go-lucky background settles it down a lot and I really like it c:

I honestly have no criticism for this, I think it's just marvellous. Please do paint and draw more things like these c:
